This orthorectified image shows the mountains and plains near the city of Bannu, visible here as a white patch near the center. It is the principal city of Bannu District in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan.
Bannu District lies in a sedimentary basin. It is flanked and guarded on all sides by the hard and dried mountain ranges of Koh-e-Safed and Koh-e-Suleiman. The city of Bannu lies in the north-west corner of the district, in the valley of the Kurram River, one mile south of the river’s banks.
