Slovakia is a country in central Europe with an area of 18,932 sq mi (49,034 sq km) and a population (2009 est.) of approximately 5,418,000. The capital is Bratislava.
The Carpathian Mountains (capped with clouds in the middle of the image) dominate Slovakia, with lowlands in the southwestern and southeastern regions. The Morava River and Danube River form parts of the southern and western borders. Grain, sugar beets, and potatoes are grown and pigs, sheep, and cattle are raised, but the economy is based on services and manufacturing.
