Biligiriranga Hills and Kaveri River, India

March 9th, 2011 Category: Mountains, Rivers

India - February 18th, 2011

The Biligiriranga Hills run vertically across this APM image. They are a hill range situated in south-eastern Karnataka, at its border with Tamil Nadu in South India. The hills link the Eastern Ghats and the Western Ghats and form a distinctly unusual ridge running north-south, rising to heights of 1800 m.

Running across the upper part of the image, just north of the Biligiriranga Hills, is the Kaveri River. The river originates in the Western Ghats in the state of Karnataka, flows generally south and east through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, across the southern Deccan plateau through the southeastern lowlands, and finally empties into the Bay of Bengal.
