Bila, Kuala and Barumur Rivers on Sumatra, Indonesia2.7N 100.0E
This APM image shows two rivermouths on the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra: that of the Kualu River (left) and that formed by the confluence of the Bila River (middle) and the Barumur River (right). The rivers spill into the Malacca Strait.
The land visible is part of the province of North Sumatra, which stretches across the island of Sumatra between the Indian Ocean and the Malacca Strait. The province contains a broad, low plain along the Strait of Malacca. In the south and west, the land rises to the mountain range that runs the length of Sumatra (visible in the full image).
