San Jorge Gulf and Falkland Islands by Coast of Argentina

47S 65.8W

October 24th, 2011 Category: Phytoplankton

Argentina - October 20th, 2011

Sediments can be seen near Cape Tres Puntas, Santa Cruz Province, Argentina, the southern limit of the semi-circular San Jorge Gulf.

Visible to the southeast of the cape are the Falkland Islands, an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean, located about 250 nautical miles (290 mi; 460 km) from the coast of mainland South America. The ocean water to the south of the islands appears slightly bluish in color, indicating the presence of phytoplankton.
