Black Sea – July 19th, 2012

The waters of the Black Sea, earlier this month colored practically fluorescent hues of blue and green by an intense phytoplankton bloom (click here for previous images), appear to be returning to their usual dark blue shade, as the bloom fades. Phytoplankton blooms wane as the tiny organisms use up the nutrients in a body of water and can no longer reproduce at the same rapid rates as before.
