Phytoplankton Bloom in Black Sea Abating

Black Sea – July 23rd, 2012

The beautiful, intense blue phytoplankton bloom that has been brightening the waters of the Black Sea over the last several weeks (click here for previous images) has almost completely abated, and the sea’s waters return to their usual dark shade. The northwestern part of the sea shows almost none of the bloom, although sediments can be seen entering by several river mouths.
