Yucatan Peninsula and Sierra Madre Mountains, Mexico and Guatemala17.7N 90.8W
Green sediments can be observed along the western and eastern shores of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. Sediments are often present here, particularly along the western coast by the Laguna de Términos (Términos Lagoon) and the Bay of Campeche.
The southern shoreline appears sediments free. A range of mountains, the Sierra Madre (known in Mexico as Sierra Madre de Chiapas), can be noted parallel to the coast, running northwest-southeast from the state of Chiapas in Mexico across Guatemala and into El Salvador and Honduras.
