Saharan Dust by Aïr Mountains, Niger

18.3N 6.2E

June 17th, 2011 Category: Deserts, Mountains

Niger - May 23rd, 2011

Dust from the Sahara Desert blows over northern Niger, to the Aïr Mountains. The massif is located within the Sahara desert and is part of the West Saharan montane xeric woodlands ecoregion.

The mountains rise to more than 6,000 ft (1 830 m), and the Aïr plateau has an average altitude between 500 and 900 m. These great heights hinder the dust’s progression eastward.
