Libya and Algeria - August 27th, 2010

Mountains rising above the yellow sands of the Sahara Desert appear dark brown in color in this image focusing on the border area of Algeria and Libya. Large expanses of sand dunes, known as ergs, appear orange and yellow in color. In the full image, rows of high dunes can be distinguished.

The  dark brown chain in the center is the Tassili n’Ajjer, while the lighter brown mountains to its south belong to the Ahaggar Range. In the full image, a third group of mountains, the Aïr Mountains, in Niger, can also be seen near the bottom.
