Mountainous Guerrero State in Southwestern Mexico17.5N 99.5W
This APM image focuses on the state of Guerrero, in south-western Mexico. Geographically, the state is mountainous and rugged with flat areas limited to small mesas and the coastline. Here, two bays can be seen by the shoreline.
An important earthquake struck this mountainous region in 2009, with a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter Scale. The epicenter was situated to the southeast of Chilpancingo, Guerrero, although the quake was felt in other parts of the country’s central region.
