Spain and Portugal - August 28th, 2010

This image focuses on the Iberian Peninsula, which includes the countries of Spain (center, right) and Portugal (left). Spain covers more land area on the peninsula, at about 84 percent.

The land in northern Portugal appears greener and less dry than that of the rest of the peninsula. The majority of the peninsula is dominated by the Meseta Central. This highland plateau appears mostly yellowish-tan in color, crossed by dark brown mountain ranges.

At the very bottom of the thumbnail image, the Strait of Gibraltar can be seen separating Spain and Morocco. Also, in the full image, much of France can be seen, although dotted with clouds.
