Ecuador, from Coast to Mountains to Rainforest1.5S 80W
The country of Ecuador is often covered in clouds, as it, true to its name, lies along the Equator in South America. Here, however, despite some partial cloud cover above the Andes Mountains, much of the country can be observed.
The coastal areas, or La Costa, are particularly visible. One of Ecuador’s three main geographic regions, they comprise the low-lying land in the western part of the country, including the Pacific coastline.
The other two regions are somewhat obscured by clouds. They are the highlands, or La Sierra, the high-altitude belt dominated by the Andes running north-south along the centre of the country, and La Amazonía, the Amazon rainforest areas in the eastern part of the country.
