Central India from Coast to Coast

13.9N 77.3E

February 14th, 2011 Category: Mountains

India - January 17th, 2011

This image spans much of India, focusing on the central portion. The western coastline, parallel to the Western Ghats Mountain Range, shows a fertile green coastal plain. The Eastern Ghats can be seen parallel to the east coast.

In the full image, several rivers can be observed, most of which are yellow from sediments. Many artificial reservoirs can be seen scattered across the interior of the country as well, created by numerous dams and hydroelectric power stations.

Large cities show up as greys areas, often circular in shape. One example of this is Hyderabad, the sixth most populous city and sixth-most populous urban agglomeration in India. Situated in the upper right quadrant, it is so large that it is even visible in the image thumbnail.
