Australia - January 12th, 2012

This FAPAR image shows the vegetation index of part of Australia’s Northern Territory, near the border with Western Australia. The index is good (green) near the coast, particularly between Van Diemen Gulf (top center) and Joseph Bonaparte Gulf (left center).

The index is also good on Melville Island, by Van Diemen Gulf, and on the Cobourg Peninsula, east of the island, Arnhem Land, as well as around Lake Argyle (south of Joseph Bonaparte Gulf). As one moves further inland and away from these bodies of water, the index of photosynthetic activity becomes progressively lower (yellow).
