Sarygamysh Lake, Turkmenistan - February 15th, 2009

Sarygamysh Lake, situated in north central Turkmenistan, is geographically located approximately midway between the Caspian Sea and the Aral Sea.

The lake was full of water at the time this image was taken; however, it is known to become a dry lakebed from time to time.

Approximately the northwest quarter of the lake belongs to the country of Uzbekistan, while the rest belongs to Turkmenistan.

Near the lake, the orange-tan terrain in the lower righthand quadrant appears sandy and desertlike, while the brown terrain to the upper right is nearer to a river and is more moist.
