Japan - March 30th, 2011

The city of Tokyo, Japan, extends northwest from Tokyo Bay, appearing here as a greyish tan expanse stretching inland from the coast. It is bordered by Chiba Prefecture to the east, Yamanashi to the west, Kanagawa to the south, and Saitama to the north.

In the full image, the Tone and Edo Rivers can be seen flowing through the city. The Tone River flows into the Pacific Ocean to theĀ  right, while the Edo branches off from the Tone and spills into Tokyo Bay.

Also visible within the urban area is Lake Kasumigaura, northeast of Tokyo Bay, near the east coast. Another lake, Lake Inawashiro, can be seen near the top edge, surrounded by snow.
