Reservoirs Created by Seyhan and Çatalan Dams, Turkey37.0N 35.3E
The Seyhan River runs through the city of Adana, Turkey, visible as a large tan area in the lower left quadrant, to the Mediterranean Sea.
Above the city, two large artificial lakes are visible: the Seyhan Reservoir (below) and the Çatalan Resevoir (above), created by dams of the same names.
The Seyhan Dam has been operational since 1956 and serves various objectives, including irrigation, hydropower and flood control.
The Çatalan Dam, on the other hand, is newer – it has been operational since 1996. It provides potable and drinking water supplies to the city of Adana, as well as hydropower and flood control.
