October 11th, 2010 Category: Deserts, Lakes, Rivers

Egypt - August 27th, 2010

The fertile areas around the Nile River and its delta, as well as the Faiyum Oasis to the south, look deep green in contrast with the surrounding tan Sahara Desert landscape in Egypt. Upon opening the full image, cities and settlements within the delta and the river valley areas appear as tan spots amidst the green.

By the eastern extent of the delta, the Suez Canal can be seen connecting the Mediterranean Sea (above) to the Red Sea (below). Following the river southwards, Lake Nasser and the Toshka Lakes can be seen in the lower part of the image. The end of Lake Nasser can be distinguished from the green of the river valley due to the color change to a silvery green.
