Mountains, Rainforest and Lake Junín in Peru11S 76.1W
Clouds flank the coast of Peru, covering the Pacific Ocean with a white veil. Moving inland, the terrain changes from arid and brown to fertile and green as one crosses the Andes Mountains and moves into the rainforest.
Visible at the center of the image is the dark blue Lake Junín, the largest lake entirely within Peru. (Even though Lake Titicaca has a much larger area, its eastern half is located in Bolivian territory). Lake Junín is located at approximately 4,082 m (13,393 ft) above sea level.
