Two lakes are visible south of the Greater Caucasus Mountains in this orthorectified image of Azerbaijan: the smaller Acinohur Golu and the larger Mingachevir Reservoir. The latter is located near Mingachevir, the fourth-biggest city in Azerbaijan with a population of about 100,000.

It is known as city of lights because of its hydroelectric power station on the Kur River, which splits the city in half. The Kur is the biggest river in Azerbaijan, and the artificial lake behind the Mingechevir dam is the biggest lake in the country.
