Caspian Sea - April 6th, 2012

Ice can be seen floating atop the waters of the northern part of the Caspian Sea. In just a few days, temperatures have risen enough to cause much of the ice to melt – click here to compare with an image of the same area captured just three short days ago. The waters below and around the ice appear bright green, due to sediments and phytoplankton growth, particularly near the Volga Delta (center left edge).
