Sediments line the coast of North Carolina (upper right quadrant) and South Carolina in the United States of America, giving a golden tan appearance to the waters near the shoreline.

In the lower left quadrant, two large lakes can be observed: Lake Marion (to the west) and Lake Moultrie (to the east). The former is the largest lake in South Carolina, with a 315-mile (507 km) shoreline and covering nearly 110,000 acres (450 square kilometers or 173.7 square miles).

Lake Moultrie, on the other hand, is the third largest lake in South Carolina covering over 60,000 acres (240 acres). It is fed by Lake Marion through a diversion canal.
