This APM image shows mountains and many lakes in Tabasco and Chiapas, Mexico. The largest lake visible is the Catazajá Lagoon, with a surface area of 16,000 hectares.
The mountains below belong to the Central Highlands and Sierra Madre de Chiapas. A continuation of the Sierra Madre del Sur, the Sierra Madre de Chiapas runs from northwest to southeast along the Pacific Ocean coast. It is extremely volcanic, resulting in high peaks, occasional eruptions and earthquakes, and rich soils.
