Ethiopia - December 27th, 2010

The green, heart-shaped lake in the upper right quadrant is Lake Tana, in the Ethiopian highlands. It discharges into the Blue Nile River.

The White Nile, on the other hand, can be observed by the left edge of the image. It is connected to the Sudd, in the lower left quadrant, a vast swamp in southern Sudan. It is one of the world’s largest wetlands and the largest freshwater wetland in the Nile basin.
