This ASAR image is centered on Lake Kamyslybas, a large saltwater lake in the Qyzylorda Province, Kazakhstan, just east of the Aral Sea. It has an area of 176 kmĀ², although the water level in the lake often fluctuates.

The lake lies in the northern part of Syr Darya’s delta, to which it is connected by a canal. Lake Kamyslybas is used as a fishery. A second lake, Zhaksyklysh Lake, can be seen to the north upon opening the full image. It is surrounded by salt flats, and towns near the lake extract salt and sodium sulfate.
