As winter ends and spring begins in the northern hemisphere, the snow in the valleys of the Italian Alps clears, making the green vegetation of these low-lying areas visible. The peaks of the mountains, on the other hand, remain white and snow-capped.

Also visible below the mountains is Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy. It is located in the north of the country, about half-way between Venice and Milan. The northern part of this glacier-formed lake is narrower, surrounded by mountains, the majority of which belong to the Gruppo del Baldo.
