Lake Aibi is a rift lake in north west China, visible in the center of this orthorectified image, near the border with Kazakhstan. It is the catchment center of the Junggar Basin. In August 2007, the Aibi Lake wetland was designated a National Nature Reserve by the Chinese government.

While some sources claim the lake has a surface area of over 1000 square kilomenters (400 square miles), others report that it has shrunk to only 500 km2 (200 sq mi). The lake is shallow, with an average depth of less than 2 meters (6½ feet).
