Green Waters of Lake Tana, Ethiopia

12.1N 37.3E

April 25th, 2011 Category: Lakes, Mountains

Ethiopia - April 15th, 2011

Ethiopia’s Lake Tana (lower left quadrant) appears bright green due to the growth of algae and the presence of sediments.

Another lake, an artificial reservoir near the town of Ozentari, in the upper right quadrant, appears darker blue although some sediments can be observed in its waters in the full image.

West of the reservoir are the Semien Mountains, whose contours stand out against the landscape of the rest of the image, although the entire area is in fact located in the Ethiopian Highlands.
