Golden and Green Sediments in Brazil’s Sobradinho Lake

Sediments give the waters of Sobradinho Lake, in the Brazilian state of Bahia, golden and green hues. The lake is fed by the São Francisco River (visible on the left side of the full image).

The reservoir covers a surface area of 4,225 km2, making it the largest in Brazil. It has a mean depth of 8.6 m and a maximum depth of 30 m.
