Russia - January 21st, 2011

Lake Baikal, in Russian Siberia, is frozen and thus appears white with ice and snow in this northern hemisphere winter image. The mountains near the lake’s shores are also capped with white snow.

Located by the northwest shores of the lake are the mountains of the Baikal Range. The northeastern shores, on the other hand, are by thhe Barguzin Range. The southern shores (visible in the full image) are framed by the Hamar-Daban Mountains.
