Frozen Lake Baikal and Bratsk Reservoir, Russian Siberia56.0N 101.8E
The southern end of Lake Baikal, in Russian Siberia, extends westward from the right edge of this image. The visible section of the lake is frozen and thus appears white with ice and snow. Framing the southern shoreline are the snow-capped Hamar-Daban Mountains.
Another frozen body of water can be observed in the upper left quadrant: the Bratsk Reservoir on the Angara River. The reservoir, with its curved shape, has a surface area of 5470 km2.
