Eastern Ghats and Chilka Lake, in India’s Orissa State19.7N 85.3E
The brown mountains visible just inland of India’s eastern coast are part of the Eastern Ghats, which run from West Bengal state in the north, through Orissa and Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu in the south. Most of the mountains visible here are in the state of Orissa (Odisha). Deomali at 1672 m is the highest point of the state.
Also near the coast, in the upper right quadrant, is Chilka Lake (Chilika Lake), a brackish water lagoon. It is spread over the Puri, Khurda and Ganjam districts of Orissa state on the east coast of India, at the mouth of the Daya River, flowing into the Bay of Bengal. It is the largest coastal lagoon in India and the second largest lagoon in the world.
