Desert and Lake Pairs in China

The two connected sandy deserts in this image of China are the Badain Jaran Desert (larger, north) and the Tengger Desert (smaller, south). The crests of sand dunes can be seen in both in the full image.

Also visible southwest of this pair of deserts is a pair of lakes: Qinghai Lake (larger, above) and a hook-shaped reservoir on the Yellow River (smaller, below). The former is partially frozen and appears mostly white in color.
