Here, the Ceyhan River (lower left), formerly known as the Pyramos or Leucosyrus, flows through Turkey’s Adana Province and into the Mediterranean Sea.

The river and its tributaries carry a great quantity of mud and sediments, creating an estuary along the shores.

Several lakes are present near the coast, the largest of which, Lake Aykatan, is on the far left. The lakes also appear laden with sediments.
