Apostle Islands in Lake Superior, USA47.0N 90.7W
Two of the Great Lakes in the northern United States and southern Canada occupy the right side of this image. The body of water in the upper half of the image is Lake Superior, while the one parallel to the lower right edge is Lake Michigan.
Upon opening the full image, a cluster of islands can be observed near the southwestern shores of Lake Superior. These are the Apostle Islands, a group of 22 islands off the Bayfield Peninsula in northern Wisconsin. The Apostles are dominated by boreal forest, and several islands have a unique bog-dune ecosystem that can be found near deep bays and enclosed lagoons.
