Volga Delta and Northern Caspian Sea – June 14th, 201146.2N 50.6E
The green land around the Volga River (upper left quadrant) turns to muddy brown along the shores of the Volga Delta in the northwestern Caspian Sea. Sediments spill forth from the delta, giving the sea’s waters a bright green color.
Moving to the right side of the image, tan sediments are present in the northeastern lobe of the sea. Below this section of the huge lake is the Kashagan Oil Field, beneath the lakebed.
