Tropical Cyclone Felleng (13S) East of Madagascar – January 28th, 201311.6S 55.5E
On 24 January, RSMC La Réunion reported a totally exposed vortex about 470 miles (760 km) NNE of Rodrigues, and 580 miles (930 km) SW of Diego Garcia. At that time it was not expected to strengthen, but early on 26 January convective activity improved and it was designated as a Tropical Depression.
The system, now named Tropical Cyclone Felleng (13S), is now located near 13.5S, 56.5E, after tracking westward at 10 knots. In this image, Madagascar can be seen in the lower left corner. Maximum sustained winds are 65 knots, with gusts up to 80 knots. Maximum significant wave height at 290000z is 20 feet.
