Somalia and Ethiopia - December 22nd, 2010

Much of the terrain of Somalia and eastern Ethiopia’s Somali Region visible in this image appears rusty red in color, although some sandy tan colored areas can be observed in Somalia to the northeast.

The seemingly narrow green line parallel to the coast along the Gulf of Aden is Somalia’s Surud Mountain Range. The light green line cutting diagonally northwest to southeast across the lower left quadrant is the Shebelle River, which begins in the highlands of Ethiopia, and then flows southeast into Somalia towards Mogadishu.
