Sun glint highlights rivers in Madagascar – January 18th, 2009
Sun glint highlights causes rivers on the east coast of Madagascar to appear bright white.
One “river” at the top, appears to run horizontally, rather than West to East like the others. This is actually the Canal des Pangalanes, a chain of natural and man-made lakes connected by canals that runs parallel to the east coast for some 460 km (about two-thirds of the island).
The eastern region of Madagascar is directly influenced by the moist southeast trade winds.
A steep escarpment leads from the central highlands down into a dark green ribbon of rain forest with a narrow coastal forest further east.
