Egypt - July 30th, 2010

The Nile River Delta appears as a dark green, fan-shaped area in Egypt, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The river itself is surrounded by a fertile valley; its channels are best observed in the full image where they can be distinguished from the green that surrounds them.

Another important channel can be observed in the full image, to the east of the delta: the Suez Canal. It is an artificial sea-level waterway in Egypt, connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. After multiple enlargements, the canal is 193.30 km (120.11 mi) long, 24 m (79 ft) deep, and 205 metres (673 ft) wide as of 2010.
