Southern Coast of Dominican Republic – December 3rd, 2008
This image of the southern coast of the Dominican Republic allows us to see the shoreline from the Pedernales Peninsula (west) to the capital city of Santo Domingo (east).
The bright green body of water on the peninsula is the Oviedo Lagoon, filled with brackish water.
Moving north along the coastline we pass the city of Barahona and Ocoa Bay before the coastline heads east to the capital. Along shoreline, particularly in the bays, a slight phytoplankton bloom can be observed.
Further inland on the peninsula is the Sierra del Bahoruco mountain range. The other mountain range further north is the Sierra de Neiba, whose peaks are covered in snow.
