Snow-Free Pyrenees Mountains in Late Summer, Spain and France – October 5th, 2010

October 5th, 2010 Category: Image of the day, Mountains, Rivers

Spain - August 25th, 2010

While the northern coast of Spain and the northern and northwestern coasts of Portugal appear green, much of the rest of the Iberian Peninsula appears drier and tan in color.

Even theĀ Pyrenees Mountains, on the border between Spain and France (upper right quadrant) are not capped by snow in this late summer image. Other mountain ranges can be seen as brown areas crossing the Meseta Central.

Other interesting features of this image include the Strait of Gibraltar, separating Spain and Morocco, near the bottom, and the sediment-filled Gironde Estuary in France, at the very top.
