Sediments and Mazandaran Coastal Plain Along Shores of Caspian Sea – March 28th, 2009
Clouds hang over the western side of the Caspian Sea, while the eastern side, including the turquoise colored Karabogas Bay, is clear. Some tan sediments are also spreading westward from the southeastern coast.
The surrounding land of Kazakhstan (top) Turkmenistan (middle) and Iran (bottom) has some cloud cover to the East. However, in the middle of the image there is a clear view of Turkmenistan’s dark blue Sarygamysh Lake (center) and the Aral Sea (top).
On the southern shores of the Caspian Sea, some of Iran’s Alborz mountain range, is capped by snow, while the green coastal plains of the Mazandaran province are snow-free and appear bright green.
