March 15th, 2011 Category: Deserts, Image of the day, Lakes, Rivers

Egypt - February 18th, 2011

The land along the banks of the Nile River and in the river’s delta is green and vegetated, in contrast to the desert that covers most of the rest of the image.

Other bodies of water can be observed as well, including Lake Nasser (on the Nile at the bottom edge), Lake Moeris (at the edge of an oasis just west of the Nile, near the left edge), the Red Sea (separating Egypt and Saudi Arabia, center to lower right), the Mediterranea Sea (upper left) and the Dead Sea (in Israel/Palestine, northeast of the Sinai Peninsula).
