Rivers near Yangon, Myanmar (Burma) - November 25th, 2008

On the right, the highly populated city of Yangon (Rangoon) in Myanmar (Burma) is visible in bright white, contrasting with the dark black of the Yangon River.

The Yangon River (also known as Rangoon River or Hlaing River) is an estuary that runs from Yangon to the Andaman Sea. Part of the Irrawaddy (Ayeyarwady) River is also visible, towards the lower left.

The radar image allows us to understand how the land in the region is used. More populous areas on the right and on the bottom appear flecked with white, whereas the darker grey, checked areas on the left are fields in rural areas.
