Portuguese Shoreline from Lisbon to Sines – September 6th, 200914.6N 49.1E
The city of Lisbon hugs the shores of the Tagus River Estuary in southwestern Portugal. The river itself flows diagonally across this orthorectified image, before emptying into the estuary and the Atlantic Ocean. Of note by this capital city is the 25th of April Bridge (Ponte 25 de Abril), appearing here as a white line across the Tagus.
In the full image, the Portuguese shoreline can be seen as far south as another important port city: the deepwater port of Sines, 58 sea miles south of Lisbon. The port has a natural depth of 28 m, with specialized terminals that allow the movement of different types of goods, including the energy supplies of Portugal, such as natural gas, coal, oil and its derivatives.
