The curved ridge along the left edge of this orthorectified image is the Quinlan Mountains, including the 2,096 m (6,880 ft) Kitt Peak, in the Arizona-Sonoran Desert. The range is on Tohono O’odham Nation land, 88 kilometers (55 miles) southwest of Tucson.
Upon opening the full image, several dark black patches are visible to the right of the center, east of peaks known as the Twin Buttes. These are part of the Pima Mines, in Pima County. There are five mines in the county, two of which are closed. Several of the open pit mines have filled with water and appear black or dark grey here.
