Cambodia and Vietnam - November 7th, 2011

This APM image shows the Mekong River crossing Cambodia and flowing past Phnomh Penh, towards Vietnam (visible in the lower part of the full image). Located on the banks of the Mekong, Phnom Penh is the capital and largest city of Cambodia.

The Mekong is the world’s 10th-longest river and the 7th-longest in Asia, with an estimated length of 4,909 km (3,050 mi). It drains an area of 795,000 km2 (307,000 sq mi), discharging 475 km3 (114 cu mi) of water annually. The extreme seasonal variations in flow and the presence of rapids and waterfalls in this river have made navigation extremely difficult.
