The border between Turkey (above) and Syria (below) runs horizontally through the approximate center of this image.
Dividing the image vertically is the Euphrates River and several artificial lakes along it. The long, dark blue Lake Assad is visible on the Syrian side, while the lighter, sediment-laden waters of the Ataturk Reservoir are visible in Turkey.
Also running vertically through the image is a large, green, irrigated agricultural area east of the Euphrates. It is more concentrated on the Turkish side of the border.
